bir sergi açılışına gittim, herkesin herkesi tanıdığı ve oldukça yüzeysel bir derlemenin buluşmak için bahane edildiği... bir yanım "bundan ibaret işte" diyor, "çalışma asla!" ve herşey keyfin bahanesi olsun. başka bir yanım "çok çalış" diyor, "bu yüzeyselliği kaldıramazsın", son zamanlarda seni tatmin eden tek şey esaslı bir üretim; üretimine ya da tüketimine katıldığın.

i went to an exhibition opening, where everybody knew everybody else, and where a rather shallow collection of works was a pretext of social gathering. one side of mine says: "that's it, never work!"; and another side: "work hard, you can't stand this much of superficiality", and this might be true, the only thing that makes you content, in these days, is a substantial production; to whose production, or consumption you participate.

i've heard that there are research assistants, who burn inside out, who are troubled from inside, who are to palpitate from inside... there's a need to commemorate troubles, with monuments. a thousand productions, via a thousand calamities; some small some huge, just for there to be something.

ne onlarla ne onlarsız | neither with them, nor without

senin hem kendini, hem diğerlerini daha az yorman için tek başına çalışman gerekiyor, orası öyle. ama tek başınayken çok daha sınırlı tasarılarla yetiniyorsun; yetinmek durumundasın.

yalnız çalışırken planları kuran sensin, anlayan ya da anlamayan sensin, kendine anlatıyorsun, dolayısıyla daha az yazışmayla-konuşmayla kurtarıyorsun. çıtayı koyan, ufku seren sensin, çok ferah tabii, ama aynı zamanda daha az geri-besleme, daha az yenilik, daha az üretim ve daha basit çıktılarla karşı karşıya kalmaya razı olmalısın... yalnızken daha dizginsiz, gelgelelim gerçekte daha 'fakir' bir yaratıcılık işliyor.. kendi başınayken çok zaman süreci zamana yayıp ekip çalışmasını taklit etmeye çalışıyorsun!!

ikna edici bir üretim için anlaşılan zorlukları, yanlış anlamaları ve dirençleri yoğurmak gerekiyor?

you should work alone; in order for you to exhaust neither yourself, nor the others. that's right. but when alone, you have to be content with projects that are more limited.

when working alone, your are the one who sets the plans, who tells or does not tell, you communicate to yourself, so you're ok with less writing-conversating. you are the one who sets the level, and who lays the horizon. it's relieving for sure. but at the same time this means less feed-back, less innovation, less production and much simpler output. when you're alone you are much less restricted, even you're unbridled, however, in fact there operates a rather impoverished creativity. hence you try to imitate teamwork by yourself, through expanding the processes over long periods!!

it seems, for a convincing production, it is necessary to wrestle through obstacles, misunderstandings and resistances.

bir kış geçerken bir asistan arkadaşın diğerine koyduğu teşhislerden biri (üstüme alındım) (nasılsa sonra silebilirim).. dedi ki:
-senin iyi bir sekse ihtiyacın var.
belki de araştırmacıların en önce ihtiyaç duydukları şey bir akademik ortam değil de cinsel ortammıştır. hep evli ya da düzgün ilişkiye sahip insanların yalnız insanlara göre daha verimli olup olmadıklarını merak etmişimdir. bazı bekarlar fena halde işleriyle evlidirler. bazı evliler ise fena halde rahat ve hedefsiz!?

i always wondered, whether, people who are married or who endure long lasting relationships, are more productive or not. some bachelors are badly infected by work. but some married ones may be too comfortable and targetless.
